Reunion is Set!

As I posted before, our reunion will be held the weekend of July 17th-19th, 2009. Here are the plans we have so far:

Fri, July 17th: Meet & Greet, location & time TBA
Sat, July 18th: Reunion Banquet, Loyal Order of the Moose, time TBA (buffet style dinner and cash bar)
Sun, July 19th: Possibly a picnic, plans TBD as we see what kind of response we get

We will be sending an email out soon to the alumns we have addresses for to get a tentative count for the reunion and see what kind of interest we have. Please remember that we have no reunion fund as things stand right now so your reunion committee is footing the bill. It is extremely important that you get your ticket orders and money turned in as soon as possible after we send out official invitations.

Also, if you registered on the reunion website in the past few months, please email me (celenacrews@sprintpcs.com) with your contact info. It seems we may have a glitch with the website and I have not received anything in a while. Thanks!

Reunion Fund Raiser

On the first weekend of Nov 2008 we will be holding a yard sale to help raise money for the reunion. The yard sale will be held in the subdivision of Manatee Oaks. Every year this community and the surrounding communities hold a 100 Yards Yard Sale that brings in lots of traffic. Parked cars line the subdivisions. I usually participate selling my daughters old clothes, toys, and baby products. I average $300 each year. So the committee has decided to participate to raise money to help with deposits for the reunion. We are asking alumni to donate items that they are no longer using and taking up space in their garages or storage units to sell at the yard sale. Clothes, old furniture, unused tools, etc. Any thing will help. All proceeds will be deposited into the reunion checking account. If everyone helps to make the yard sale successful we will be able to keep down the cost of the reunion. We Have A Date!!!!

Mark your calendars .... the SEHS Class of '94 Reunion will be the weekend of July 17th - 19th, 2009.

That's just over a year away and we are really looking forward to seeing everyone!

It's been a while ...

... but don't worry. We are still planning the 15 year reunion for 2009. We are looking at dates between Easter and sometime late fall. We'll let you know as soon as we figure it out.

Contest Coming Soon ...

We're putting together a contest to help us find missing alumni. The winner will be the person who finds the most missing alumni and the prize will probably be free tickets to the reunion and possibly a free hotel room as well. We're still working on the rules and details so check back later for more info.

As far as reunion planning goes, we're leaning towards the Holiday Inn Riverfront. You'll probably remember that's where our senior prom was held. The prices are good and they're giving us a discounted rate on hotel rooms too.

One more thing to note, if you sent a friend request to the reunion page on myspace and it wasn't accepted, please send it again. I dropped the ball on checking that for a while and some older friend requests were deleted before I could approve them.

Congratulations!

Congrats to Eric and Teresa Anderson. They had a baby girl. Her name is Juliana Kay. She was born on May 15th at 5:25 am. She weighed 6 lbs. 11 oz. and was 20.25" long.

Karen & Jeff's Baby !

We had a date ...

So we had our first planning meeting and we came up with a date for the reunion. March 20-22nd, 2009. Then Gretchen made some phone calls and we found out that was not the best time of year if we want to keep things affordable. Apparently rates are higher during that time of year due to the snowbirds. So back to the drawing board we go.

We selected a spring date because most people that filled out the survey said they wanted the reunion in the spring. However, we only got about 20 survey responses. Considering we graduated with about 400 people, this is not a good representation of the class. So we decided to hold off on selecting another date until we get more people to complete the survey on the official reunion website. See link to the right.

I also have some pictures to post from the social we had that night. We decided to try and get something like that set up on a regular basis. Check back here for the date of the next gathering.

Meetings

Hope to see some of you this weekend. If you want to be a part of the reunion planning committe please try to make it to our first meeting this saturday. See earlier post below for details.

I set up a Yahoo! Group for the reunion planning committee. If you are interested in joining the group you can go to yahoo and click on groups. Then search for SEHS94. I tried to make this easier by putting a link here but I think blogger is deleting it because it is a link to yahoo and blogger is owned by google. Silly competition. You can also leave a comment to this post or send me an email and I will get you added that way.

We now have contact info for 79 members of the class of '94. That's a good start but we still have a long way to go. If you are still in contact with anyone on the list of missing classmates below, please urge them to contact us. We don't want anyone to miss out.

Update

It looks like the reunion planning meeting will be postponed for a little while. I'll let you all know when we reschedule. If anyone still wants to meet up at Gecko's that night, please email me at celenam@intergate.com. If I don't hear from anyone we will just reschedule it for the same day that we reschedule the planning meeting for.

DeShawn Bhooshan (McAvoy)

The daughter of a fellow classmate (and friend) was in a serious four-wheeler accident. Please send positive thoughts and prayers to her and her family. Here is, in her words, what happened:

"I just got home form Tampa General Hospital yesterday with my oldest daughter Krysten after 11 days. She was driving a 4 wheeler with a helmet and crashed head first into a telephone pole. She was hurt very badly and did not wake up for 4 days. She fractured many facial bones and skull bones and had a bleed in her brain and her left eye was almost lost. She amazingly turned around very quickly and is walking (with help) and talking now. The doctors thought she would be in ICU for a week and then the pediatric floor for about 3 weeks. She was in ICU 3 days and the floor for 8. She is progressing quicker than any other child they have seen before with the same injuries. She is my miracle. She is having trouble with short term memory and lack of inhibition. She will be home schooled for a couple of months and then hopefully return to school by Spring."

Date for Committee Meeting and Social
